The challenge

1GarageDoor is a garage door service company in the United States. Its technicians, jobs and customers all live in ServiceTitan.

Dispatchers planned each day from lists and spreadsheets. They guessed at drive times and zones, then typed every change back into ServiceTitan. Technicians crossed town more often than they needed to, and the limits on shifts, jobs and miles were kept in people's heads.

What we built

One map for the whole day

  • Every open ServiceTitan appointment on a Google map, with each technician's zones drawn in.
  • Daily and multi-day views, so the whole week can be balanced, not just today.
  • Unassigned jobs stay on the map as pins until someone takes them.
  • Search by zone or zip code to find the work in an area.

Routes in the right order

  • Assign a job and the technician's route is redrawn in the best stop order.
  • Total miles and minutes for each technician, with each leg highlighted.

Limits checked as you assign

  • Shifts by weekday, jobs a day, drive minutes and miles, set per technician with company defaults.
  • A clear warning when an assignment breaks one of them.

ServiceTitan both ways

  • Appointments, jobs and locations pulled in by a background sync, ready before dispatch starts.
  • Assignments and reschedules written straight back to ServiceTitan.

Built on AWS

  • Node.js on AWS Lambda and API Gateway, Amazon SQS for the sync with a dead-letter queue, and Aurora PostgreSQL.
  • The portal served from Amazon S3 and CloudFront.

In their words.

Even US Bank were impressed. Thank you for building this payment thing that no one else has in my industry, even with hard-to-get API access.
